Why We Don't Use Microban In Our Shopping Cart Covers

Babe Ease products - shopping cart covers, high chair covers, toys, bibs, burp cloths, changing pads - do not contain Microban® because Microban® protects products and not product users. We thought to share with you information on why we choose not to include Microban® in our baby products. Microban® is a chemical applied during the manufacturing stage of many household and industrial items including HVAC systems, cleaning supplies, industrial flooring, footwear and toys – just to name a few.

Some companies may suggest that use of Microban® in their manufacturing processes protects babies against germs. Babe Ease prides itself on keeping up with the latest information on disease-causing bacteria and we have found that Microban®, added to a baby product, does not inhibit the spread of disease-causing germs to the babies who use the product. What we found was very interesting.

Microban® Protects Products Not Users

Microban® is actually designed to prolong the life of a product such as a garment or toy and protect the product from degradation, stains and odors. We visited the Microban® website and here’s what else we found:

"Microban® technology is not designed to protect users from disease causing microorganisms." (accessed June 8, 2005).

Microban® is not designed to protect babies from germs. It simply protects the baby product from looking and smelling bad. Babe Ease stands behind the principal that only the process of washing hands and garments will eliminate human pathogens.

Protecting a garment from stains is very different than protecting your baby from germs.

Germ Protection

Babe Ease baby products are designed to protect babies and other users from exposure to the disease-causing germs found on surfaces such as shopping carts, restaurant high chairs and changing areas. Our baby products achieve germ protection simply: by covering the contaminated surfaces. And, all of our baby products (with the exception of our disposable line) are machine washable and dryer safe.  And all of our products have passed stringent testing.  We are proud that none of our baby products contain lead.
